Onion video strikes a nerve to yours truly

There is nothing I can say that be remotely as funny and sarcastic as this video from The Onion.

Reasons not to be an iPhone 3G early adopter

Ok... the iPhone 3G is just way kewl. However, there are lots of reasons to NOT not be an early adopter on any technology, much less the iPhone 3G. I'm a huge Apple fan, most notably a Mac OSX fan. Any really stable, "just works" operating system based on BSD is always fine by me.

WinSCP equivalant for Mac OS X... almost

I'm a big fan on WinSCP, a SSH/SFTP client for Windows. It does everything I want it to do and more. I'm able to securely connect to a remote server via SCP, upload the latest patches to my client's websites, and then update the config files using the built-in editor to point to the new configuration. Presto! Change-O! New software is launched.

End of an era: The Three Year Tablet PC Experiment

My three year experiment with a Windows Tablet PC came to a screeching halt Wednesday at the end of work when I did the unthinkable: I inadvertently dropped a Coke Zero into my machine.

Today I woke up like so many other Windows XP users only to find that I had lost connectivity to the Internet... sorta.

It isn't bad enough that they felt they could violate my trusting them with my contact information, but they had the audacity to call my home phone, my cell phone and my wife's cell phone. Upon calling the manager to complain and ask to opt-out of marketing messages, the manager apologized for hitting all of our numbers.

Lou Reed makes a good point, doesn't understand marketing

Lou Reed, who I am big fan of his music, made a point at the SXSW premiere of the documentary Lou Reed's Berlin that, "people have got to demand a higher standard". Coverage at ZDNet. While I agree that MP3 is a crumby file format, Lou misses the point.

Good examples of the graphical representation of vast amounts of scientific data

I've been thinking a lot about how much I hate PowerPoint lately, particularly for representing vast amounts of data. It turns out I'm not alone.

The mindset of the Class of 2011

I was reading Boing Boing and ran across this: lot's of things that the high school class of 2011 has never experienced and thus I feel old. The class of 2011 never saw a Berlin Wall (unless they visited a piece of it in Rosslyn, VA or Kentuck Knob in Pennsylvania. South Africa has never suffered from Apartheid.
