Good examples of the graphical representation of vast amounts of scientific data

I've been thinking a lot about how much I hate PowerPoint lately, particularly for representing vast amounts of data. It turns out I'm not alone.

Quick way to send large files

Here is a quick to send large files over the internet.

Firefox on a USB Drive from U3

One piece of technology that has become just as ubiqitous to bit-smashers as thier cell phone and laptop is the USB Drive (aka thumb drive, jump drive, etc.) I carry around 4Gb encrypted on my keychain just for that one moment when someone needs to give me some file that is much too large for email. Also on my USB drive is a portable version of Mozilla Firefox with all my extensions. This gets me past all of the limitations of those computers where the owner isn't as enlightened about sufting the web with speed, security and just plain fun.

Theory of Constraints

Dr. Suess On Personal Computers

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port, and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort, and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort, then the socket packet pocket has an error to report. If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash, and the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash, and your data is corrupted 'cause the index doesn't hash, then your situation's hopeless and your system's gonna crash! If the label on the cable on the table at your house, says the network is connected to the button on your mouse, but your packets want to tunnel on another protocol, that's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall, and you screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss, so your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse, then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang, 'cause as sure as I'm a poet, the sucker's gonna hang! When the copy of your floppy's getting sloppy on the disk, and the microcode instructions cause unnecessary risk, then you have to flash your memory, and you'll want to RAM your ROM. Quickly turn off the computer and be sure to tell your mom.

Security Best Practices: Turn off that FTP server

Jason over at Jasonn.com recently introduced me to a secure FTP (sftp) client application that he is recommending to his clients. Jason, like several of my telecom industry clients, has the same problem: How do you transfer large amounts of data securely between two computers?

Observations on Modern Software Engineering

Devin Discusses His Successes,Failures and Lessons
Learned.
History, Definitions and My Approach
There is a vast difference between Software Development
and Software Engineering. Both serve a purpose. To understand the progression
of information technology and its use in modern businesses, you have
to first understand the history of technology in civilization. Of course,
if someone had told me that back in college I would have laughed at
them had I not participated in part of the evolution of the Personal
Computer.
